David Prowse an actor who played the role of Darth Vader in ‘Star Wars’ original films, put on the dark helmet and suit that he uses to play the role of Dark Lord of the Sith. He revealed to Absolute Radio, a British owned radio station that he was going through radiotherapy at the Royal Marsden Hospital in the south of London and was assisting the hospital with its appeal for funds.

Prowse said that he was involved with Royal Marsden Hospital’s appeal because he was going through treatment to combat prostrate cancer. He also told Absolute Radio that he had undergone his last treatment just that morning.

Prowse had been undergoing radiotherapy for the past two months at Royal Marsden Hospital due to Darth Vader cancer and he let Absolute Radio know that Royal Marsden Hospital was the best hospital that anyone could ever hope of going to.

Prowse who had adorned the well-known black helmet and suit, made a call to Absolute Radio in an effort to raise funds for Royal Marsden Hospital.

David Prowse told Absolute Radio that he is involved with Royal Marsden Hospital because that was where he was undergoing his treatment for prostate cancer and was even having his last treatment that morning.

Keith Bishop, David Prowse’s agent said that they were happy that that the cancer was caught during the early phases of the treatment. Bishop said that he was hopeful for a complete recovery and that Prowse was progressing well.

Prowse is renowned for the role he played in the traffic safety advertisements for Green Cross Code back in the 1970’s. He has undergone radiotherapy at the Royal and says it is the best hospital. The other things that he has had to deal with are hot flushes, which his wife says are signs of menopause.

David Prowse’s advice for men over 50 years is to take a blood test or PSA test to check for cancer of the prostate. This test helps to determine whether one has prostrate problems.

The voice of Darth Vader in the ‘Star Wars’ film was provided by James Earl Jones because Prowse, who was born in Bristol had an accent which was West Country and was thought not to suit the part.

In 1977, after the Star Wars films became big international hits, David Prowse opted for the small screens as he played the role of the Green Cross Code Man who taught young ones to stop, see and hear before crossing any road in the TV campaign that was popular and ran for quite some time.

The voice of Vader, who is father to Luke Skywalker, was provided by James Earl Jones for the initial three ‘Star Wars’ films. This was because Prowse’s English accent was more western and was therefore, considered unsuitable for the part.
